| Mediation Services and
Facilities have been provided primarily through the ADR Works Centre in
Toronto since January 1997. We closed the original facility
on Consumers Road and
opened a more accessible Toronto branch
office for the law firm which includes mediation and arbitration facilities used by Nancy and Murray Miskin. That office is at Suite 704 of the
Procter and Gamble Building, 4711 Yonge Street, with direct subway access
at Yonge and Sheppard plus free underground parking. OUR ADR PRINCIPALS: Sometimes parties to mediation can be inflexible (click on photo above) Murray Miskin, a practicing litigation lawyer called to the Ontario Bar in 1981, is very experienced in the role of counsel to parties involved in disputes resolved by mediation or negotiation. He has frequently been consulted for many years and advised mediators on legal issues and in how to best handle cases before them. In litigation with multiple parties he has often played a key role in getting other parties to the table talking and resolving their differences. As a trial lawyer Murray Miskin has generally been seen as co-operative, fair, reasonable and moderate. This positive reputation from court experience combined with years of ADR teaching experience make him an ideal choice for mediator. After 13 years in Arbitration, Murray Miskin received his mediation training in February 1998 at Osgoode Hall Law School and received advanced mediation from Dr. Christopher Moore of Boulder Colorado in October 2003. He was a roster mediator from an early stage for the Toronto Roster of the Ontario Mandatory Mediation Program. Murray has spoken on the subject of Mediation in general and mandatory mediation in particular at Bar Association, Law Society and educational institute programs about ADR, litigation and mediation. Murray is frequently requested by parties to law suits as mediator in mandatory mediation and has withdrawn from the Court Roster to allow him sufficient time for other aspects of his work. Services for mandatory mediations are still available on a more limited basis and not at the tariff rate. The applicable hourly rate is $275.00.
Nancy is a highly skilled mediator who is also the wife of Murray Miskin. She is not a lawyer. Her mediation services are available at the rate of $150.00 per hour. She became a Toronto Court Roster Mediator in 2001. Prior to that she conducted mediations through a Pilot Project of the Richmond Hill Small Claims Court. Since joining the Toronto roster Nancy has mediated complex multi-party commercial cases plus a variety of others subject to mandatory mediation. She received mediation training through the University of Windsor Law School Toronto program run by the Stitt, Feld law firm and further training at Osgoode Hall Law School. She has attended litigation and ADR seminars of the Law Society of Upper Canada and the Ontario Bar Association. In October 2003 Nancy received advanced mediation training from Dr. Christopher Moore of Boulder Colorado. Nancy brings to Mediation years of experience in health, social and human services. She has a Masters of Science Degree from the Pharmacology Department of the University of Arizona. She spent most of the 1990s working with patients who have been injured in auto accidents and as such is very familiar with auto accident bodily injury claims a frequent subject of court action and resolution by mediation.
